Jonathan insists Internazionale need to be beating the likes of Sampdoria if they want to win the Scudetto.
Playing in front of new owner Erick Thohir, Inter took the lead through Fredy Guarín. They struggled to add a second and were made to pay when Brazilian midfielder Renan equalised in the closing moments.
Inter are now ten points adrift of leaders Juventus, who beat Udinese 1-0.
“We respect sides like Sampdoria, but Inter are a big club and if you want to fight for the Scudetto or finish near the top you can’t drop points,” Jonathan told Inter Channel, as reported by Football Italia.
“We’ve already said that these home games are essential. Unfortunately, it didn’t go well against Sampdoria.
“I’m gutted but we’re human, you can’t always play well.
“We’ve still got another 25 games to play, but we mustn’t forget that – especially at home – we can’t perform like this.
“It’s disappointing for us and for the President on his first visit to San Siro.”
Jonathan was signed from Santos, where he won the Copa Libertadores, in July 2011. After initially struggling and being loaned to Parma for six months in January 2012, the 27 year-old has become a key player under new Head coach Walter Mazzarri. He’s made 12 appearances this season, scoring twice.
