Chelsea have offered Manchester United £10 million plus either David Luiz or Juan Mata in an attempt to secure Wayne Rooney according to reports in England.

The BBC claim that the offer was made on Tuesday evening and was flat out rejected by Manchester United on Wednesday morning.

This comes after reports emerged on Tuesday that Rooney was ‘angry and confused’ at his current situation at Old Trafford, after falling out of favour with Sir Alex Ferguson.

But David Moyes is trying to rebuild bridges with the former Everton striker, with clubs now monitoring the player’s situation.

Jose Mourinho is attempting to reshape his squad and with David Luiz’s inclusion in the offer, the Portuguese boss has sent out a signal to the Brazilian.

Rumours had circulated that the defender’s style was not well liked by Mourinho and the offer seemingly confirms that Luiz is surplus to requirements.
