Vicente del Bosque has told Thiago Alcantara that the most important thing for his career is competitive action.

The Spain boss says the Brazil-born star needs to be playing regularly at this stage in his development, although he was vague regarding Manchester United.

“The most important thing for Thiago is that he keeps on getting game,” Del Bosque told reporters. “I think he would get them at Barcelona, he is held in a very high regard at the club.”

Manchester United are reportedly leading the chase to secure the player for a relatively cheap €18 million, a consequence of Barcelona’s short-sighted decision not to play Thiago for the required number of games to remove the release clause,
