Palmeiras have announced the signing of Libertad’s Uruguayan national team defensive midfielder Sebastián Eguren.
Sebastián Eguren signed a contract until December 2014, after he passed the medical earlier this Friday. He recently played in the Confederations Cup.
The midfielder told Palmeiras’ official site: “I signed wiith Palmeiras because it’s Palmeiras. It’s a great club, known all over the world and that win titles. I am very happy and I want to be champions here.
My first goal is to get promoted to Série A, and in 2014 I want to enjoy the club’s 100th anniversary, the new stadium, and have a wonderful year. These are the things that motivate us, as we will become part of the club’s history.”
Eguren added: “I have played in many different countries (Norway, Sweden, Spain and Paraguay), but I never had any problem to adapt.
But no doubt that having players in the squad that speak my language (Mendieta and Valdivia) will help a lot, especially in the beginning.”
