Corinthians head coach Tite is confident his team can come back from their 1-0 Copa Libertadores defeat to Boca Juniors on Wednesday night in the return leg at the Pacaembu later this month.

The current holders went down to a Nicolas Blandi goal in their round of 16 first leg at La Bombonera but Tite still thinks his side have what it takes to progress further in this year’s competition.

He told Lancenet: “It is a normal result (to lose 1-0 in La Bombonera). Of course we did not want to lose, but it is fully reversible.

“We have the perfect conditions at home to reverse the score. This is the mark of the game.”

The coach was disappointed in the game, which he felt was more of a fight than a football match.

“We could play more. We are able to play more. Both teams can deliver a better performance. The game had too much catimba (fight), too much dispute and not enough football. Boca took advantage of this and their intensity was effective. We have to win.”

And Tite, who has led Corinthians to the Brazilian national title, the Copa Libertadores and the Fifa World Club Cup in the past two years, was annoyed at suggestions his team were intimidated by playing at La Bombonera.

“Did they feel La Bombonera? The team came here as world champions!

“Now we have to win the game, regardless of anything. We must have strength. A team that wants to win must have quality. In our house, the crowd makes a difference.

“Let’s create this environment so that we can take advantage of this aspect.”
