The remaining games of the last round of Rio de Janeiro State Championship’s Taça Rio was played yesterday.

Botafogo beat Volta Redonda 1-0 at the Raulino de Oliveira to finish the Taça Rio with seven wins in seven games.

Both teams had already earned a spot in the semifinals, so the match was open, especially in the second half.

Botafogo won despite fielding a mainly reserve team, Bruno Mendes scored Botafogo’s only goal, his first goal since late January.

Fluminense beat Bangu 2-0 at Vasco’s São Januário stadium, and like Botafogo, they fielded a mainly reserve team.

Rhayner opened the scoring after only 5 minutes, Fluminense slowed down after the goal as the team kept losing possession and misplacing passes.

Rafael Sóbis extended Fluminense’s lead shortly before the final whistle. Chelsea-bound right-back Wallace once again had a disappointing performance.

Elsewhere, Olaria, Friburguense, Aidax and Boavista won at the expense of Nova Iguaçu, Quissamã, Duque de Caxias and Resende.

The semifinals will be played next weekend:
