Brazil legend Ronaldo believes Neymar has too much potential to remain in South America and has urged his compatriot to consider a move to Europe before the 2014 World Cup.

The Santos striker is one of the most sought-after talents in world football and has reportedly attracted interest from a number of top clubs, with Barcelona said to be leading the hunt for his signature.

However, Neymar has opted to remain in his homeland and is determined to do so until after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but Ronaldo believes he needs to consider a move now to fulfil his potential.

“Neymar is undoubtedly an excellent player,” the 36-year-old said in an interview with Sports Spectacular.

“He is going to be one of the best in the world when he decides to play in Europe. He is too talented to be limited only to Brazil.

“He has had several proposals from clubs abroad, but he renewed his contract with Santos. Ideally the best time to leave for Europe would be before the World Cup in 2014. It would make him more mature and he would have more experience to lead Brazil.”

Ronaldo started his career with Cruzeiro but left after a season for PSV, before becoming one of the world’s greatest strikers at Barcelona, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and AC Milan.
