Atlético Madrid defender Miranda has signed a new two-year contract at the Vicente Calderon.

The Brazil international signed for the Spanish outfit in 2011 from São Paulo and his deal was due to expire in the summer of 2014.

However, Atlético, who are currently third in La Liga, have opted to extend the 28-year-old’s deal by a couple more years.

Miranda told the club’s official website: “I’m very happy. I was working to earn this renewal and I think it is a very good agreement for both parties.

“At Atlético I feel great, it is like my home. Madrid is a city that I love. I’m very happy here.”

The club’s director of football José Luis Caminero was thrilled with the centre-back’s decision to prolong his stay with los Rojiblancos and was quick to praise his performances over the past two seasons.

He said: “The club has always been clear that it had to extend this player’s contract. He is a defender that gives security to the team and is noted for his positioning and coolness.

“His great performances made it clear that we should go for the renewal.”

Miranda has made 24 league appearances so far this season, notching two goals in the process.
