Barcelona’s Dani Alves has hit out at critics of assistant manager Jordi Roura and says the absence of Tito Vilanova will prove just how good the team really are.

The Spanish coach has been placed in temporary charge of the La Liga leaders as Vilanova is currently recovering from a cancer relapse.

Barca’s form has dipped since the turn of the year but after beating Deportivo on Saturday, Alves was quick to hit out those who had previously criticised Roura.

He told Barca TV: “If we win everyone is quiet and Jordi is the best. But when we lose people have to have someone to aim their anger at.

“We don"t listen to any of that. Everyone knows how important Tito [Vilanova] is for us, but when the boss is not here that"s when we see how good the team really is.

“Criticism is part of sport, that"s what"s wonderful about it."

The Catalan giants were beaten 2-0 in the first-leg of their last 16 Champions League clash with AC Milan and will need to produce a remarkable comeback if they are to reach the quarter-finals on Tuesday.

“We go into the Milan game with a good feeling now. We played against Deportivo without fear and without nerves," Alves concluded.
