Botafogo coach Oswaldo de Oliveira has revealed that veteran midfielder Clarence Seedorf believes he is still adapting to Brazilian football.
The former Inter, Real Madrid and Milan midfielder has scored 13 goals in 33 appearances since arriving in Rio de Janeiro eight months ago.
However, the Fogão coach has revealed that Seedorf does not believe he has fully adapted and puts in extra effort to make sure he does.
He said: “Seedorf is very harsh on himself. He says he still hasn’t fully adapted and makes a big effort to reach the high standards he sets himself.
“He puts pressure on himself, so I try to help him by making sure that his teammates understand his way of thinking and vice-versa. He has made a big effort to adapt.”
De Oliveira also said that the 36-year-old has improved with every match this season, which has helped Botafogo reach the final of the Campeonato Carioca.
He added: “There has been a difference in his development in the first couple of games this season. It’s a question of time and something he is still getting used to.”
Botafogo will face Vasco da Gama in the Taça Guanabara final at the Engenhão on Sunday.
