Corinthians striker Alexandre Pato is a doubt for the club’s Copa Libertadores fixture with Tijuana in Mexico on Wednesday evening, having suffered a minor sprain to his ankle in training on Tuesday.

The injury occurred during a tactical session working on set-pieces and, although the club insist he should be able to start the encounter, it will come as a worry to manger Tite.

Pato was treated by club doctor Guilherme Runco before heading for treatment with the physio, but ignored media questioning on the issue.

Runco told reporters: “It was a mild ankle sprain. It seems there was no more serious injury and it shouldn’t be a problem. It was immediately iced and will be reevaluated. I do not think it will be a problem for the game, no.”

Injuries have been a major concern for the highly-rated striker throughout his career so Corinthians fans will no doubt treat the doctor’s words with caution until Pato is named on the team-sheet for the crucial encounter.
