Chelsea defender David Luiz believes that Brazil were “unlucky” in defeat to England last month, in a match that he captained his nation in the absence of Thiago Silva.
David Luiz, 25, was once more called to the Seleção on Tuesday for next month’s fixtures with Italy and Russia, the latter of which will be played at his home ground at Stamford Bridge.
With that in mind, the former Vitoria and Benfica star took time to reflect on his experience at Wembley—a game which he had been a major doubt to appear in.
The centre-back told his club’s official website: “The game against England at Wembley in February was special for me. I didn’t know if I would play, I didn’t train for two weeks before, only the day before the game, but I was captain of Brazil and there were great players involved.
“Ashley Cole, with his 100 caps, Steven Gerrard, Ronaldinho. To play this game after some difficult weeks, where I was doing treatment from seven until seven every day, it was so special. We were unlucky with the result but it was a very good game and both teams really tried to score goals.”
The Chelsea defender will be back in action next Sunday, as the Blues continue the defence of their FA Cup title with a Sixth Round fixture against Manchester United.
