São Paulo have completed the signing of Brazil Under-17 right-back Foguete, following the player’s recision of his contract at Rio de Janeiro side Vasco.

Foguete, 17, will likely feature for the Under-17 side at the South American championship in April having been an important player for his country at Under-15 level before and is just the latest of a series of players to walk away from Vasco over non-payment of salaries.

“I chose São Paulo because it was the club that offered the best conditions for me to develop as a professional and achieve my career aims,” he told the club’s official website.

“I made many friends with the national team who were from São Paulo and they always speak well of the club. I am very happy and ready to begin work.”

São Paulo director of football Adalberto Baptista also confirmed to reporters that the club had beaten off stiff competition for the player, who was supposedly won over by the club’s history of producing important first-team players.
