Former São Paulo centre-back Xandão has left Sporting Lisbon to join Russian Premier League side FC Kuban Krasnodar, after the Portuguese side opted against taking up a €3 million option to buy in his loan contract.

Xandão, 24, played for São Paulo on loan between 2010 and 2011, but was owned by Traffic group using their Desportivo Brasil academy side. From there he was then loaned to Sporting.

He has now, though, signed a three-and-a-half year deal with Kuban, which sees him become Ukrainian manager Leonid Kuchuk’s first signing since joining the club last month.

Kuban currently lie fourth in the Russian top flight and stand a real chance of European qualification for the 2013-14 season, if they can continue their good form into the second half of the campaign.

In all, the defender played 39 times for Sporting Lisbon and scored three times, including helping the club reach the 2011-12 Europa League semi-finals where they were eventually eliminated by competition winners Atlético Madrid.
