Flamengo coach Dorival Júnior believes that finding Chelsea midfielder Ramires has been the biggest ‘find’ of his career.

In 2007 Dorival moved from São Caetano to Cruzeiro and spotted the energetic star during one of his first training sessions at the club and immediately recognised his potential.

“Ramires was to be released, loaned or returned to Joinville. It was the biggest find of my career, by immediacy,” he told SporTV.

“I was coming from São Caetano and asked for Emerson Avila (who was the interim coach) to make two teams. Ramires was on the second team. With 15 minutes of training, I called Ivan (Izzo, his assistant) and said: “That ‘boy’ will change the team.”

“But the coach not the player learns, only gives the player the opportunity to appear. We had the good fortune to observe Ramires and fortunately it worked.”

Dorival is now coaching his 14th club and he has seen the way clubs operate change during his career in the dugout.

“The job of the coach is to make the club spend as little as possible to assemble the squad. At Figueirense, my first job as coach, the went well. We Felipe Luis and André Santos.

“Then, coincidentally, the two went to the Brazilian team at the same time (in 2009). I always try to youth team, because they are players who have more “appetite”, more identification with the club.

“Today the agent runs the athlete. The law does not permit the club to sign a contract longer than three years. When the boy emerges, the contract is almost over.

“Then, begin the proposals, and the training club has no way to make a greater bond. It is an error in the legislation that is penalising clubs.”
