On Sunday one of the biggest football derby’s in the world takes place, the famous Flamengo vs Fluminense or as it is known in Brazil the Fla Flu.

Flamengo are the largest supported club in Brazil with an estimated 25 million fans. Fluminense are their main rivals and nothing gets the blood boiling more than the thought of losing to the bitter rivals.

In recent years neither team has enjoyed much success in the Brazilian championship, but this year Fluminense (Rio State Champions) have made a very good start and currently sit in Second place. Flamengo are in 13th position having had mixed success so far this season.

As usual there is a huge media build up to the game with Fluminense boss Abel Braga refusing to name his starting line-up until the last possible minute. I don’t want to give any weapons to rivals,” he said.

Whilst Flamengo manager Celso Roth has confirmed that defender Fabiano and midfielders Leonardo and Andre Santos will return to his side.
