Fluminense vice-president Sandro Lima has revealed that former player Darío Conca is the club’s main transfer target for next season as they look to secure the first Copa Libertadores title in the club’s history.

Conca, 29, is currently playing in China with Guangzhou Evergrande, the club that he moved to for $10 million dollars in 2011 from Fluminense, and Lima told Lancenet that they hope to speak to the player this week.

He said: “No doubt, especially the history that he (Conca) has with Fluminense. He has a place in our hearts and is our priority for 2013.

“Fluminense had not won the national title for 26 years and we had many difficulties. Yet he was present in 38 matches in the competition. He took over the reins of the team and returned us to being champions.”

The newly crowned champions have been linked with a move for Ronaldinho, who is out of contract with Atlético Mineiro at the end of the season, but Lima says that the Argentine is their number one target.

“The two together would leave Abel (Braga) lost. He would have to play about 13 or 14 players. Conca is a great idol. If we can make an effort to have him, we will. He has an amazing charisma with the crowd. We know he has a contract and it will be very difficult to bring him, but if it is viable, he will always be the first name on the list.”

Conca had a successful three years in Rio before moving to China. In 2008 he was a vital part of the Fluminense team that lost the final of the Copa Libertadores on penalties to LDU Quito of Ecuador and then in 2010 won the Brasileirão.
