Flamengo striker Vágner Love does not feel guilty for scoring the goal which helped relegate former club Palmeiras from the Brasileirão.
The 29-year-old striker, who spent a total of three seasons at Palmeiras, earned the Rubro-Negro a point with an 89th-minute equaliser at the Estádio da Cidadania on Sunday.
Palmeiras, who scored in the 63rd-minute through Vinícius, needed three points to keep within reach of Portuguesa and their survival hopes alive.
Therefore, only one point meant the Copa do Brasil champions were doomed to join Figueirense and Atlético Goianiense in the second division next season.
Vágner Love said: “I always want to score goals and scoring makes me happy.
“I have much gratitude for Palmeiras, but I am a professional first.
“It’s not my goal which caused the relegation of the club. I’m just concentrating on my job.”
Love joined the Verdão’s youth academy in 2002 before making more than 40 appearances and scoring 27 goals for the first team.
The Brazil international then returned in 2009 on a season-long loan from CSKA Moscow, however, this had to be cut short due to off-field altercations with fans and his desire to play for childhood team Flamengo.
