Corinthians head coach Tite is ignoring the injury to Cheslea captain John Terry ahead of the Fifa Club World Cup in Japan this December and insists the Copa Libertadores champions should focus on their own quality and not the misfortune of others.
Tite, 51, is currently preparing his squad for the trip to Japan, where it is expected that the final will be between Chelsea and Corinthians, but the coach did not want to talk about the knee injury suffered by Terry after a challenge with Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, which will keep him out for 3 weeks.
He told reporters: “Corinthians have to win the title, or not, based on their own quality. Not becuase of something else. We do not think of praying or rooting against others for further cases of injuries. We have the power to win.”
And the coach said that in the final 3 games of the season it was important for Corinthians to play well and not concentrate on the result.
“What I try to highlight is our performance. If the result is negative, but we played well, then we remain confident.
“We are all anxious to get to Japan. Everyone wanted to travel on Monday. But you have to keep the base and competitiveness at a high level,” he explained, referring to the remaining league games against Internacional, Santos and Sao Paulo.
