Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has hailed the impact of teammate Maicon during the Blues’ 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The former Inter defender came on in the 57th-minute to make his home debut for City, having been sidelined for the majority of time since his summer transfer.

Maicon’s introduction turned the game around for the home side, especially as Roberto Mancini switched to three at the back, as City came from behind to secure three points.

The England international said: “It doesn"t need saying how good players they [Maicon and David Silva] are.

“We"ve not really seen what we wanted to see from Maicon this season as he"s been injured.

“But he came on and powered down that line and made a big difference."

Hart also praised City for showing the spirit and quality required to keep pace with league leaders Manchester United.

He added: “It was a great performance and a great win. I thought we were unlucky to be behind – Tottenham didn"t play how they usually play.

“Our spirit is never in question. We"ve got quality and that"s why we do well, with those two things combined. That makes us the team we are."

City are still unbeaten this season and are now within two points of their Manchester rivals at the summit of the Premier League.
