Cruzeiro’s rightback Ceará has praised Santos star Neymar for his stunning performance in his side’s 4-0 defeat.
The home crowd gave a standing ovation in recognition of Neymar’s hat trick performance and Ceará joined his admirers: “He is unique, a unique player in Brazilian football.”
The player also dismissed speculation that the applause was ironic: “The crowd recognised a national symbol. He has done much for Santos and for the national team.”
Neymar delivered a top class performance as his hat trick inspired the Santos team to a convincing 4-0 win, with Felipe Anderson also getting on the scoresheet.
The Santos star now has 12 goals for the season and could challenge for top scorer, currently held by Fluminense’s Fred with 16 goals to his name.
