The future of Ronaldinho has yet to be decided, despite rumours that the Atlético Mineiro star has been talking to league leaders, and likely champions, Fluminense.

Ronaldinho, 32, moved to the Belo Horizonte side earlier this season after falling out with rivals Flamengo, and so far, has proved to be a rather astute signing. However, his contract runs out at the end of the year and the player is currently considering his options for 2013. Fluminense meanwhile are looking to add to their squad to make a serious challenge for the Copa Libertadores next season.

Celso Barros, president of Unimed-Rio, who sponsor Flu, told Lancenet:”He’s a beautiful player. I’d be lying if I spoke otherwise, but we have no interest right now. We have quality players for the position. But I can not talk about the future. Two years from now, who knows?”

Ronaldinho’s brother Assis was keen to play down the rumours as well. He said:

“Since Flamengo, my brother has received various types of proposal. My brother was twice World Champion and again does well at Atletico-MG. It is normal that this happens. But we are focused on finishing the Brazilian championship as well and then we will talk with Atletico. It was agreed.”

Fluminense’s desire to bring the former Barcelona star back to Rio is aided by the fact that the star is close friends with two key players for Flu, Deco and Thiago Neves. However, Barros refused to be drawn on whether they had made an approach for the player.

“I never said that rumor was true. It would be unethical for Fluminense to negotiate with a player who is at another club. The information is unfounded. The plan for 2013 is not on the agenda” he added
