QPR owner Tony Fernandes has praised QPR’s summer signings, including Brazilian keeper Julio Cesar, and insisted that manager Mark Hughes is not to blame for their current position.

Speaking on QPR’s London call-in show, Fernandes said: “We’ve got tremendous quality at the club. I went down to the training ground and the players’ spirit was exciting for me, there was real camaraderie there.

“Some of them are big stars, they love what they’re doing here, we think we’ve made the right decisions. We knew we had to strengthen some areas and it seemed to make sense at the time so we went for it.”

Fernandes was adamant that the signings were right and Hughes was not to blame to their position at the bottom of the table: “I don’t regret any of the signings I’ve made. I said it was going to be tough because they needed to gel.

“Cream eventually rises to the top. I’m fully behind Mark, as are the shareholders. We haven’t had luck but we have enough quality in the squad.”
