Palmeiras continued their recent good form with a surprise 2-0 victory over Cruzeiro as the relegation candidates look to escape from the bottom four.

Argentinean forward Hernán Barcos grabbed a brace in the second half to secure all three points, leaving them four points from safety in 17th.

Cruzeiro stay ninth in the league table and could drop into the bottom half if results tonight do not go their way.

Fellow strugglers Bahia held Corinthians to a 1-1 draw after Bahia’s Fahel cancelled out an early Douglas penalty.

This draw leaves Bahia in a precarious postion after Palmeiras’ victory, just four points above the relegation zone. Corinthians meanwhile drop to eighth.

Grêmio retain third place after they were held to a 0-0 draw with Coritiba. Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s side remains four points ahead of São Paulo in 4th.

This marked the end of four straight wins for Coritiba as they move up into the top of the table at 10th.
