Ayrton Senna’s legacy did not remain only on the circuits. His work, also linked to the fight against poverty in Brazil, remains alive thanks to the institute that bears his name and is chaired by his sister Viviane.

Born in 1994, six months after the driver’s death at the San Marino Grand Prix, the organization is dedicated to helping in the design of educational policies, training teachers and collaborating in the production of knowledge. Present in more than 3,000 Brazilian cities, it has impacted the lives of more than 36 million students in the country, according to official information.

“Senna dominated the track, the Institute dominates the construction of educational solutions that promote change,” the organization says on its website. “With the power of knowledge, of the collective, and of dedication, we have faced many inequalities, helping many children and young people to cross their own finish lines with more opportunities, drive and perseverance,” it adds.

In 2004, the institute was recognized as a Chair of Education and Human Development by UNESCO, something unprecedented for an NGO until then. “Ayrton always said that if we want to change something, it is through the children that we must begin, through their education, and that is why the Senna Institute chose education as the central path of its action,” says Viviane in an official video.
