Arsenal are set to poach long standing Tottenham target Leandro Damião according to reports in England.

The Internacional striker was the subject of interest from Spurs over the last three transfer windows and was also linked to Liverpool on the last day of the English transfer window.

The Daily Star reports that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has targeted the Seleção striker as a January signing to fill the void left by Robin van Persie’s move to rivals Manchester United.

Tottenham, according to the paper, were hopeful of finally securing a deal for hitman Damião at the end of the Brazilian season but it seems that Arsenal’s interest will complicate the deal.

Arsenal splashed out on a raft of summer signings, incluing Lukas Podolski, Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla, but still want to add a striker to their ranks.

Damião’s Internacional are currently in 6th place in the Brasileirão having recently suffered a shock 3-1 defeat at the hands of Atlético GO.
