Sandro, 23, is set to return to the Brazil first-team for the fixture with Japan on Tuesday, with Chelsea midfielder Ramires set to miss-out through illness, and hopes that the side can show the spirit required to return the nation to the top of the world game.

“We need to be proud. We need to feel once more that the Seleção is the best in the world," Sandro told Terra.

“We need to show that on the pitch. It"s good for us and as a group we must look to say ‘we are the guys to do this" and fight to return to being the world"s best and winning tournaments."

The Tottenham enforcer, though, believes that the team is developing in the right manner ahead of next summer"s Confederations Cup, which will be the Seleção"s first competitive test since the 2011 Copa America.

“There are a few changes each time, but the squad is pretty much the same," he added. “We are good friends. Things are starting to happen and we are running for each other.

“The five games [before the Cup] will allow us to strengthen other areas yet. The game with Japan will be good to see how we are developing. We are excited that there are just five games until the tournament."
