Lazio midfielder Hernanes is delighted with his side’s start to the season and believes that the Biancocelesti can challenge for the Serie A title.

The 27-year-old has been in fine form for the Italians this season, scoring four and setting up three in his first seven matches.

Lazio are currently third in the league, four points behind joint-leaders Juventus and Napoli, and the Brazilian playmaker is confident his side can challenge the top teams come May.

He told Globo Esporte: “The start of the season, for me, has been great.

“I believe the strength of our team is our desire to win, and we have to continue like this. We can’t relax for a moment.

“We must keep this mindset to continue to win, and stay within reach of the top of the League.”

The former São Paulo man also commented on his development since his move in 2010, and how he feels he has adapted to the game on the peninsula.

Hernanes added: “After two years here, I feel much more at ease, and now things come to me more naturally.

“During the first two seasons, I played in the centre of midfield, and that was a good thing because I learned a lot from that position.

“Now I am playing slightly behind the strikers, and I can do what I like. This way, I can assist goals and see a lot more of the ball.”

Hernanes scored for Lazio during their 3-0 win over Pescara yesterday, when he sent a curling free-kick past the helpless goalkeeper in the fifth minute.
