Brazilian midfielder Ramires has won many plaudits for his versaltility in his time at Chelsea, but admits he is happy to be back in his preferred central-midfield role for the moment.

Ramires, 25, spent the end of last season in a wide attacking-midfield role, but has moved back into his regular, deeper position following the arrivals of Eden Hazard and Oscar in more advanced roles.

“I’m very happy as it’s my natural position,” Ramires told the Chelsea website. “We’ve been doing well and I just want to stay in there and do whatever I can in order to help the team.

“I just want to play as often as possible and keep improving. Whether I play on the wing or play a more defensive midfield role, my main objective is to play as well as I can.”

The former Cruzeiro player is famed for his all-action displays and added that it is for this reason that he feels more at home in midfield, where he can influence the game more easily.

“I like to play in midfield, where I am able to take possession of the ball and distribute it to my team-mates,” he added

“I’m happy to play on the wing, especially when the team needs me to, but I like to be more involved in the game so I’m better suited to playing in midfield.”

Ramires was rested for Chelsea’s Premier League encounter with Norwich on Saturday, appearing as a second-half substitute for veteran midfielder Frank Lampard.
