The 23-year-old striker, who finished top goal scorer at the 2012 London Olympic Games, is currently one of the most highly-rated players in South America.

Tottenham Hotspur have tabled a number of bids for Damiao over the past two years, but in recent weeks the Brazil international has been linked with Premier League giants Manchester United.

Damião has now come out and admitted that he received an offer from a club he refused to name, but Internacional president Giovanni Luigi decided against the sale.

”The value of the offer was very good for me and for Internacional,” Damião told Band Sports.

”But it didn’t happen. I think Giovanni Luigi is a great president and he knows what he’s doing.

”I’m very happy to be playing in Brazil. I’ll certainly leave at some point for sure, but not today.”

Damião has a £47 million buyout clause in his deal at Internacional, where he contracted until July 2016.
