Thiago Silva, 27, led the Seleção to a silver medal in London, but with gold the expectation at home, Brazil’s side fell short of their target.
The newly-signed Paris Saint-Germain defender, though insists that Brazil are on the right track and must pick themselves up ahead of Wednesday’s friendly encounter with Sweden.
“It doesn’t change anything. There is still two years until the World Cup, although it’s clear that defeat will knock our confidence a little,” Thiago told Globo Esporte.
“It is more difficult to continue working, but we have an important friendly now, on Wednesday. Defeat hurts a lot, especially in the manner we lost, but life goes on. We are on the right track, there is nothing wrong”
The experienced defender believes that the youthful side of the Olympics will learn much from their pain at Wembley, helping them in the long-term as they set their sights on higher targets.
“You learn more from your mistakes than from successes. Today, we have another example of that,” he continued.
“A final like this is decided on fine details and the goal, right at the start of the game, knocked our confidence. We had to alter our style of play – an early goal complicates everything.
“We were thinking of playing a great final and leaving with a gold medal. But, football is like this: one day you win, the next you lose.”
