Neymar, 20, is now without doubt the biggest name in Brazilian football, a status previously held by greats of the world game.
Yet, despite his success and fatherhood, the Santos forward does not believe he has changed as a person.
“I do not know why I’m people’s idol, it is hard to explain,” Neymar told Globo Esporte. “Despite the success, I’m the same person, I never changed.
“I am still favela, and I think that answers it. My family and friends are my everything.”
To what does Neymar attribute his grounded nature? His parents.
“My father is always with me and takes care of my career. My mother is more homely, she is someone faithful to God, and is always praying for me.”
