The former Corinthians midfielder had won the Águias a penalty in the 77th minute, which Alex Witself had no problems converting having sent Joaquim Silva the wrong way.

Nigeria international Elderson Echiejile then equalised for Braga five minutes later finishing off Hugo Viana’s free-kick at the far post, before César curled in his shot two minutes into stoppage time much to the delight of the home fans.

Benfica now sit just a point behind league leaders Porto with just five games remaining in the league.

Jorge Jesus’ side will now immediately turn to their attention to Chelsea whom they face in the quarter-finals of the Champions League at Stamford Bridge this Wednesday.
