The former Lyon midfielder has been in sensational form recently, scoring five goals in his last six appearances for the Cruz de Malta.

However, Juninho wont be able to travel with the rest of the Vasco squad to Peru, as he is set to undergo dental surgery on a missing implant on the same day as the match.

But Borges is confident he has a strong enough squad to manage without the 37-year-old.

”A player who is playing at this level will always be missed,” he told ESPN Brasil. ”But the greatest virtue of Vasco is the strength of the group.

”That’s the reason why we’ve been able play and fight in every single competition all this time. We don’t just depend on one player, that’s why we’re doing well.”

Vasco sit second in Group 5 with 7 points, whilst Alianza Lima lie in fourth with 3 points. With two games remaining in the group stages of the Copa Libertadores, it’s a must win game for the Peruvian side.
