The 24-year-old defender limped off a minute before half-time during the Blues’ 4-2 win at Aston Villa on Saturday.
After the match, interim Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo confirmed Luiz’ ankle will be assesed by the club’s medical team on Monday.
”We’ll have to wait for 48 hours to asses David Luiz,” the Italian said. ”He felt his ankle ligaments and came off.”
Luiz had experienced a rocky first year in England, but in recent games he has come to the fore with some fine performances, notably against Napoli and his former side Benfica.
