A third minute goal from Fred was enough for Flu to claim all three points in their opening Libertadores fixture against Arsenal di Sarandi on Tuesday night, but the overall performance of the Carioca side was far from convincing.

”We started well, but then we started to struggle to keep hold of the ball which made things difficult,” Deco said.

”The most important thing undoubtedly is getting off to a winning start.

”There’s no point playing good football and not winning. Last season that happened. We had a good performance, but unfortunately we ended up drawing.”

Fluminense’s next test in the Libertadores comes against Boca Juniors at the Bombonera on 3rd of March.
