Defensive-midfielder Gladstony, 18, is owned by academy-club Desportivo Brasil, but was signed on the advice on Manchester United, who retain a first-option agreement on the player.
FC Twente are being used as the gateway club in Manchester United’s agreement with the academy, with England’s Work Permit requirements prohibitive to signing many young Brazilians.
Reports from Holland suggest that manager Steve McClaren has been greatly impressed with the youngster, who has been training at Enschede for several weeks now and will look to fast-track him into first-team plans in the coming weeks.
The breakthrough came in the past couple of weeks, as Gladstony secured an Italian passport courtesy of his grandfather. Now an EU National, a future move to Manchester should be difficulty free.
