25,432 Palmeiras fans descended on the Pacaembu to watch the game, but the occasion was all about the Verdão paying tribute to one their greatest ever players Marcos following his retirement.

The 38-year old goalkeeper hung up his gloves at the start of January after spending 19-years at the Paulista club in which he won two national league titles and one Copa Libertadores.

Marcos watched the game from the stands and wasn’t to be disappointed.

After what looked like was going to be a scoreless draw, seconds before the referee was going to blow the final whistle Palmeiras’ Luan sent in a cross from the left wing which picked out the arriving Pedro Carmona at the far post. Carmona made no mistake from six-yards out, heading the ball in to the back of the net in the 93rd minute to give the Verdão the 1-0 win.
