Finishing as the league’s top-scorer, Muriqui contributed sixteen goals and ten assists in thirty league appearances for Guanghzou Evergrande this campaign, outshining even his impressive team-mate Darío Conca.

Back in Brazil for the end of the season break, Muriqui said: “I couldn’t believe when the club called me to say I had won a third award back in China.

“I am having a great time and this recognition makes me happy. The league now features well-known stars like Conca and Obina, so it makes this award even more meaningful.”

The breaking news this week is that Muriqui may well be joined in China next year by Chelsea’s Nicholas Anelka, who is set to sign a huge deal to join Shanghai Shenhua in January.
