Ahead of Sunday’s big derby between Carioca rivals, Vasco and Fluminense, Vasco defender, Dede, spoke to the Brazilian press of the threat Fred imposes on defenders and insists he’ll need to be on high alert to stop the Tricolor striker this Sunday.

”Whats good about Fred?” Dede questioned. ”Today, everything. The ball can fall to his left foot, his right foot, his head, or he’ll do a bicycle kick and he ends up scoring goals. You cant let the ball end up at his feet. In fact the whole Fluminense team deserves attention and respect. There in good form.”

With two games remaining, both Vasco and Fluminense have a chance to become league champions.

However for Fluminense to win the title, they must win their last two games against local rivals Vasco and Botafogo, as well as hope Corinthians only pick up no more than a point in their last two games against Figueirense and arch rivals, Palmeiras.

In Vasco’s case, they can afford to draw against Fluminense, but would need to beat arch rivals Flamengo and hope Corinthians pick up no more than a point from their last two games.
