Cruzeiro had started well, taking an early lead through Anselmo Ramon, before Farias hit the bar and Montillo won a penalty after being felled by Alex Silva.
Unfortunately for ‘the foxes’, centre-back Mauricio Victorino missed the penalty by some distance.
Before half-time, Flamengo were back in the game. Deivid struck the crossbar from range and the ball rebounded off the back of keeper Fábio into the empty net.
After the break, Cruzeiro collapsed. Deivid added another with a looping header at the back post, before Thiago Neves came into the game.
Three goals in a matter of minutes for the Al-Hilal owned player showed just why Flamengo are desperate to secure his services for 2012 and put the rubro-negro right back into contention for the title, with defeats for both Vasco and Corinthians going their way.
