“I scored a beautiful goal, but it came to nothing,” said the 19-year-old playmaker. “It’s no good that I am happy with my performance if the team does not win. 

“I would rather have played poorly and the team won. During the period the team has been losing, my output has dropped as well.”

However, in amongst the agony of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, Lucas reserved some kind words for his colleague Wellington – one of São Paulo’s most consistent players this campaign.:

“His was great and scored a goal of quality. He is a very cool guy who came from the academy, as I did.”
