The Uruguayan striker netted his fiftieth goal for Botafogo in last Sundays league fixture against Cruzeiro. After Fridays training session, team mate Renato presented the plaque to Abreu on behalf of the club in recognision to Abreu’s landmark.

Abreu was touched and told the press, ”I would like to thank Renato for doing this on behalf of the group. I didn`t know that Renato would give this to me. I want to thank them a lot, because I score goals for the team. If I was Messi I would score goals by myself, but of course I am not, I need my team mates to help me. Without them I wouldn’t score these goals”

The first goal scored by El Loco came against América RJ in the Taça Guanabara in January 2010. Since then, the Uruguayan has become a fans favourite at Botafogo.
