Alex, 34, who has been an idol at Cruzeiro since his two year spell in the early 2000’s, when he inspired the Foxes to a ‘triple crown’ of the State Championship, Copa do Brazil and Brazilian Championship titles.
Alex had taken to Twitter to congratulate Gilvan, saying: “Congartulations Dr. Gilvan and good luck at Cruzeiro in this complicated time and with the new board from January.”
Gilvan responded almost immediately with a suggestion to the Fenerbahce star that he should return to the Mineirão.
“Thank you Alex. I am sure we will get out of these difficulties soon and hope you can be with us soon to help us relive our former glories. You can be part of the success of this new administration.”
It is unlikely a move could take place this year, with Alex contracted until 2013 in Turkey. But, given the player’s known love of the club, Gilvan may well be able to make Alex a marquee signing of his era in the future.
