The President of Nova Iguaçu, Jânio Moraes, has stated that he has been approached by both Lyon and Napoli over the possible sale of the Botafogo left-back.

Nova Iguaçu still own 50% of the players registration and Moraes mentains that given their prior agreement with Botafogo, the Rio de Janeiro club still have priority when it comes to Cortês’ purchase. However, tellingly, he would not rule out considering other offers.

Two European investment agencies have made frequent inquiries over the player’s registration, whilst São Paulo are known to be interested, but there has been a significant increase in European interest recently.

A representative of Napoli came and watched Botafogo on Sunday and then went away. He said he would make a proposal in the coming days but nothing has arrived yet,” said Jânio Moraes.

“On Thursday, a person linked to Lyon called the club wanting to talk to me about the player’s ownership, but I was not available and there has been no other contact.

“There are many possibilities.”
