Speaking to SporTV, Menezes said: “Balanced groups have directed the draw because there are enough teams to balance it. In previous draws, we have seen strong groups and the ‘group of death".

“Maybe Group B [Italy, Denmark, Bulgaria, Armenia, Malta and the Czech Republic] has the most technical balance as a whole. The teams in that group are quite similar to each other," he added.

On Spain"s clash with France in Group I, Menezes commented: “No doubt getting the World Champions as an opponent causes concern. But Spain must also worry about France. If you can get past the big teams now, it prepares you better for the future."

The 49-year-old also spoke about the need for Brazil to be in good shape by the time the finals kick off in three years time, saying: “Our role is to prepare to face the best possible entrants that arrive."
