Mexico’s inexperienced side, with a squad largely made up of players under the age of 22, showed no fear and took a shock lead on 41 minutes through Nestor Araujo, who headed in from ten yards.

Chile pulled themselves level on 67′. From a corner, Pablo Contreras dragged a weak shot across goal but Esteban Parades was waiting to tap in the equaliser from close range.

Six minutes later, Chile were ahead, and again the goal came from a corner. Matias Fernandez’s floated delivery was met by Arturo Vidal, who got in front of his marker to head powerfully into the net.

Each team has now played one game in the Copa America, but so far there have only been two victories and just eight goals from six games. Hopefully the tournament will explode into life in the second round of fixtures.
