The young Santos star was frequently fouled by the Penarol players in the recent Copa Libertadores final, but remained calm and had a big hand in helping the Brazilians to lift the trophy, scoring the first goal.

“He has become very mature since the Libertadores,” said Menezes. “He was tightly marked and fouled a lot, but he was able to ignore it and be the decisive factor. This is the most important aspect of his game.

“We want to get the best out of him by playing to his strengths. We can be less dependent on him than Santos, because he has some very good players around him. If we share the responsibilities, then it will be easier for everyone.”

Neymar is likely to be a key player for Brazil at the upcoming tournament in Argentina, and will be hoping to add to the three goals he has for the Seleção in his five caps so far.
