Sneijder played 87 minutes in the Italian sides Coppa Italia triumph on Sunday evening and was on top form, providing both assists for Samuel Eto"o"s brace. However, it was his first appearance April 23 and he is short of match fitness. As a result, he will not travel with the Dutch squad for the game in Goiânia.

The 26-year-old had been suffering from muscular problems during his time out, and adds to an already lengthy injury list for Bert van Marwijk, with Mark van Bommel, Rafael van der Vaart, Maarten Stekelenburg, Theo Janssen, Jeremain Lens, Michel Vorm and Demy de Zeeuw all having been ruled out of contention.

One player who definitely will be available is Barcelona"s Ibrahim Afellay, who will travel despite stating his desire to remain at home and rest after a long season. “Of course, it would be better for me if I did not travel to South America with the national team," he told De Telegraaf.

“Staying home is not an option in the coach"s opinion and I have to respect that. We are already missing a number of players due to injury and we want to play with a strong team. I understand that and I don"t want to let my team-mates down. Playing for Oranje is still an honour for me."

Afellay will play despite tiredness after an exhausting campaign, adding: “I did not have much of a break [last summer] after the World Cup because PSV"s season started again shortly after. I did not have a winter break either following my move to Barcelona, and it has not been easy to adapt to my new surroundings."

Brazil face the Netherlands on Saturday, before playing another friendly against Romania three days later on June 7. They then begin their defence of their Copa America crown on July 3, when they take on Venezuela in Argentina.
