Paulinho scores yet again as Guangzhou Evergrande continue winning streak
The victory sees the South China tigers maintain their lead at the top in the Chinese Super League.
Fans were once again allowed into the stadium and it continues the recent trend of few fans in stadiums since it was allowed last week. A few fans at both ends were allowed at the Tianhe Stadium.
Guangzhou Evergrande started the game as the dominant side and missed a number of chances early on to open the scoring.
Y.Lilu missed a one-on-one chance after he saw his effort thwarted by Shenzhen goalkeeper W.Guo.
Fresh from scoring a late winner last week, Paulinho was on track once again to give his side the opener in the 28th minute. The Brazilian was in the right place at the right time to connect with a cross from Y.Liyu.
Shenzhen also had chances of their own but the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Guangzhou. The second half started with both sides chasing for goals but it was the home side that grabbed yet another goal.
Fernandinho grabbed the second in the 54th minute and it marked an easy win for Fabio Cannavaro’s side.
The result sees Guangzhou Evergrande maintain a seven point lead at the top of the Chinese Super League after the tenth round with a tally of 25 points. Shenzhen continue yet another game without a win although they maintain their fifth placed position with 11 points so far.
Guangzhou Evergrande will return to the pitch on Sunday. A tough clash awaits when they take on third-placed Shandong Luneng. On the other hand, Shenzen FC will play a day later when they travel to bottom of the table Henan Jianye.
